FLOWERING TREES ADD FRAGRANCE TO THE SHADE.(AT HOME)

When it's summertime and the living is easy, nothing beckons quite like a shady tree. It's an inviting place to sit and talk, read, dream or simply while away the hours.

If the canopy is filled with beautiful fragrant flowers, so much the better.

Fittingly, the trees that offer this two-for-one bonus have lyrical names such as jacaranda, mimosa and magnolia that often conjure up visions of other places and times. This time of year, the South Bay near San Francisco is ablaze with the pinks, blues, purples and creamy whites of these trees.
