PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE: NOC) Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector (ES3) has named Philipp F. Schweizer director of Science and Technology, with responsibility for the sector's Science and Technology Center (STC) here.

Dr. Schweizer, 59, joined the company in 1968 as a senior engineer and has held a number of engineering and management posts in the research and development of automation systems and artificial intelligence for sonar, radar, and visible spectrum image and signal recognition systems. Most recently, he was manager of Imaging and Information Technology at the STC.

Dr. Schweizer received a B.S. in electrical engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering, an M.S. in electrical engineering from Marquette University and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Purdue University. He holds five patents and is the author of more than 100 published technical reports.

Northrop Grumman's Science and Technology Center provides front-end technology for all of the sector's business areas. Its core technology focus is on imaging and information technology, microelectronics, cyroelectronics, low power RF miniature filters, advanced microwave devices, special electronic and optical materials, and precision timing applications. The center employs 105 engineers, scientists, technicians and administrative personnel.
